92 years old!?

I will run Honolulu Marathon tomorrow. I will do my best!!

Glady Burrill was a women who was 92 years old. She finished the Honolulu Marathon last year.
Time was 9:53:16. She might be the oldest female to ever finish a marathon.
She have ever run marathon 5 times.

I was surprised! 92 years old?! I can't imagine it but I respect her.
I want to try a lot of things when I will become elderly person:-)

125 years old!!??

According to article, Pusuke is dog who is from Japan. Last December, he was certified for the Guinness title. However, he died on  December 5th,2011 in Japan. He was 26 years and 9 months old. If he convent dog into people, he was about 125 years old.

It is amazing! The dog average life expectancy is 12 or 14 years old. He was twice common dogs. In Japan is a country where many people live to an advanced age. I think in Japan might be also a country where many dogs live  to advanced age:-)

Mom

I wrote short story in Bella's class. If you have time and read my story, I'm become sooooo happy♥

Mom

The sky is dark today. I live in Cambodia now and I enjoy life here. My name is Mary. I’m 25 years old. My father died from cancer before I was born, so my mother brought me up by herself and I lived in Hawaii. My mother’s name is Cameron. I’m interested in about developing countries because when I was an elementary school student, I learned about Cambodia. First time, I thought these children were very poor and unhappy. However, it was misunderstanding. They are poor, to be sure, but they aren’t unhappy. Their face was looked like a sunflower. They had big bright smiles, so my dream is to go to Cambodia and I want to increase look more like those children.

“I hate you.” 10 years ago, I had a terrible quarrel with my mother about my dream. My mother was against my dream. I couldn’t understand why mom was against my dream, so I decided to run away from my home and go to Japan because my friend lived in Japan. However, I didn’t have enough money, so I pocketed my mother’s cash card, so I could stay at my friend’s apartment. My friend name is Marie. When I was an elementary school student, I met her. She was from the same school. She also doesn’t have father. Her father died in car accident, so we could understand each other. She is very kind. When I was in trouble, she always helped me and talked to me, so when I talked about my dream to her, she agrees with my dream.

However, recently, she often says “I think your mother worries about you very much. You should contact your mother.” I don’t want to do that because I didn’t tell her where I live, so my mother doesn’t know where I live. I didn’t want her to know where I live.

Suddenly, Marie came to me. She had something with her.

I asked her, ”What’s happening? What is this?”

 she said,” Letter! Letter!”

“from who?” I asked. “ your mother!” she said. “ what?” I said.

I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know why she knew where I lived. I read the letter from my mother.

“Dear, Mary.

Finally, I found you. How are you doing? How is your life in Japan? I hope you enjoy staying in Japan. I have to confide the secret to you about your father. To tell the truth, your father didn’t die from cancer. After you were born, he worked at the army and he lived in Cambodia for helping poor children. However, one day, when he went to a market to buy his food, he was killed by someone, so when I heard you want to go to Cambodia, I was so surprised, so I was against your dream. However, I was fool. I want to support your dream, so I agree with your dream now.  Your dream is very good. I am proud that you are my children. Please take care of your health. I love you.

 From, Cameron

After I finished reading it, I shed big tears. I couldn’t stop it. I regretted what I had said to her. I was such stupid a child.

Marie said,” Do you miss your mother? Do you want to meet her?”

 I said, “I don’t know. What should I do?”

“You should go back to Hawaii soon. Don’t you think so?” Marie said.

I said, “Yes. You are right. I want to meet her immediately!! Thank you Marie.”

The sky was clear. I came back to Hawaii. Before I came home, I was very nervous because I didn’t know what to say. However, it didn’t matter. When I met my mother, she hugged me tightly. I shed big tears again. I couldn’t have been happier.

I said, “I’m so sorry mom. I don’t hate you. I love you, mom.”

My mother said, “I’m sorry, too, Mary. I love you, Mary.”

I went back to university after that, and researched about Cambodia. I often stayed out late for research. However, my mother always waited for me, and supported me. I was bound to my mother by ties.

After ten years, I am working in Cambodia to help children now. I can hear children laughing. My dream came true. If I didn’t go back to Hawaii those days, I might still stay in Japan and regret forever. My mother is indispensable for me.

I want to say again, “I love you, mom!!!”

GRITS.

Today, my host father made grits for breakfast. I have never eaten it but it was so good!
Grits are small broken grains of corn. They were first produced by Native Americans centuries ago. They made both "corn" grits and "hominy" grits. Falls Mill produces "corn" grits.

My host father made fryed grits.
This is recipe.
4 c. water
1 c. Albers Grits
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs, beaten
Bread crumbs

Boil the water, add the salt; slowly pour the grits into the water, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer gently for about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and pour into greased loaf pan. Chill over night.
To fix, slice into 1/2 inch thick slices, dip in the egg, then the bread crumbs, the egg again, and the crumbs once more. Fry in melted butter or vegetable oil until nice and brown. Yummy!
Here's a good Cowboy recipe for hash that makes for a wonderful breakfast.

If you have time, please try to make it!!

Immune System

Some people catch cold at the change of seasons, so I researched how people should prevent it.

1. Eat lean protein at every meal. For example, beans, soy, and seafood (particularly oysters and crab),  almonds and cashews, are also good sources of protein, as well as magnesium, both of which help support a healthy immune system.

2. Shoot for 5 cups of fruits and veggies a day. For example, Vitamin A (sweet potatoes, carrots, and dark leafy greens) Citrus fruits (like lemons, oranges, and grapefruit), peppers, papayas, and broccoli, contain vitamin C,And vitamin E, found in nuts, seeds, and turnip greens.

3. Take a 10-minute walk a few times a day.

4. Get your vitamin D levels checked. About 50 nmol/L is generally enough to maintain overall health; less than 30 nmol/L is too low for most people. We can get from the sun and very few foods.

5. Reduce your stress levels.

6. Cook with olive and canola oils.

7. Limit your drinks.

I think it is very diffcult, but if we do that, we can prevent cold and our body became health.
You sould do that and I should do that:-)

Where Is Santa Claus From!?

Do you know where is Santa Clause From?
I think Santa is from Finland. However, my hostparents said Santa is from the Nolrth Pole.
It is interesting! I don't know which is correct. maybe everyone don't know, so I researched about him.

According to article, Santa Clause was modeled on St. Nicholas. He is from Turkey, so Santa is from Turkey. However, people's image was Santa lives in cold area and he always take reindeer, so people decided he is from Nolth Pole. However, some children asked them parents "There isn't grass in Nolth Pole. What food does teindeer eat?" so people changed he is from Finland.

I was surprised! It is so fun. I didn't know that. There is Santa Clause Village in Finland. I want to go there someday♥

Marriage

Recentry, My host father often talks about marriage. Yesterday, we talked about intercultural marriage. Ryoko's[she is japanese who live with my hostfamily.] friend's boyfriend is American. She wants to marry with him, but her parents is against it because  her parents guess if her boybriend wants to get job in Japan, it it so hard and maybe his earnings is fewer than her earning.

I don't care about it. If my earnings is bigger than my hasband, it is no problem because I think married life is build by each cooperation. Money is important but not that all. Don't you think so??

I don't know who will marry with me. My parent's don't care about person's nationality. I also don't care. Anyway, to get married is so wonderful things so please don't divorse soon(>_<)haha

Crooked teeth all the rage in Japan!?

I found very interesting article. The title of an article is "Crooked teeth all the rage in Japan."
According to the article, in recent years, some Japanese women are paying dentists to create "crooked teeth" [Japanese say "yaeba"] artificially by affixing plastic front to their real teeth.
Rumor has it that Japanese men are attracted by "yaeba".
Recently, almost popular idol and actress have "yaeba".[it's real. not fake.] Some women tend to them, so they do like that.

I was so surprised!! I have ever heard kind of this story in Japan. However, I never even dreames that this story was written by a repoter for the New York Times.
I have two "yaeba".  Some people said it is very cute, so It's my most attractive feature. However, I don't think to pay money for fake "yaeba" even if I don't have "yaeba". I think it waste money.

A reporter said "It's still changing their appearance primarily for men."
I think so, too. However, I think unvarnished appearance is the best.
I want to say "Please don't change your face:("

Thank you,
Miki Sogo
